How Fishs Eddy Started
Fishs Eddy began in 1986. Two people, Julie Gaines and David Lenovitz, were exploring Upstate New York. They got a little lost and found a small town called Fishs Eddy.
Finding Treasure in a Barn
During their trip, Julie and David found an old barn. Inside, there were lots of dishes from restaurants that had survived a fire! They decided to buy all of them. They took the dishes back to their apartment in Manhattan. Soon after, they opened their first store at 889 Broadway, close to Union Square.
A Story in Pictures
In 2018, Julie Gaines wrote a graphic novel (a comic book-style story) about how Fishs Eddy started. Her and David's son drew the pictures for the book, which is called Minding the Store.
