Five Go Off In A Caravan is the fifth exciting book in the Famous Five series by the famous British author, Enid Blyton. It was published in 1946 by Hodder and Stoughton. This adventure story follows the four children and their dog, Timmy, as they embark on a unique holiday in horse-drawn caravans. They soon find themselves caught up in a thrilling mystery involving hidden treasures and sneaky characters.

An Exciting Caravan Holiday

The Famous Five – Julian, Dick, Anne, and George – are enjoying their school holidays at Julian, Dick, and Anne's family home. One day, they meet a friendly circus boy named Ned. He is traveling with a parade of colorful horse-drawn caravans. This gives George a brilliant idea: why not go on a caravanning holiday themselves?

Julian's parents agree, and they rent two caravans for the children. The Five decide to travel to a beautiful place called Merran Lake. There, they meet Ned again and also get to know some interesting circus animals.

A Mysterious Hillside Camp

The children set up their camp on a peaceful hillside. However, their presence quickly annoys two people from the circus: Tiger Dan, who is Ned's guardian, and an acrobat named Lou. These two want the children to leave the area.

What the Famous Five don't know is that one of their caravans is parked right above the secret entrance to a network of caves. Inside these caves, Tiger Dan and Lou have hidden some valuable stolen items!

Outsmarting the Crooks

With the help of their new friend Ned, their loyal dog Timmy, and even a clever chimpanzee named Pongo, the four children begin to figure out what's going on. They use their wits and bravery to outsmart the criminals.

After a thrilling adventure, Tiger Dan and Lou are caught and arrested. Ned, who was not happy with Tiger Dan, gets a new start. He leaves the circus to live with a kind farming couple nearby, where he can look after their horses.
