Five Have Plenty Of Fun is the 14th exciting book in The Famous Five series by Enid Blyton. It was first published in 1955 by Hodder & Stoughton. This adventure follows Julian, Dick, Anne, George, and Timmy as they get caught up in a thrilling mystery involving a kidnapped friend and dangerous secrets.

The Story Begins

Julian, Dick, and Anne are spending their school holidays at Kirrin Cottage. They are staying with their cousin, George (Georgina), and her loyal dog, Timmy. George's father, Uncle Quentin, is a brilliant scientist. He is working on a special energy project with his friend, Elbur Wright.

A New Visitor Arrives

Elbur Wright has a daughter named Berta. She is in danger of being kidnapped. People want to steal the secrets of her father's energy project. To keep her safe, Elbur sends Berta to stay at Kirrin Cottage.

George is not happy about Berta's arrival. Berta has her own dog, a poodle named Sally, which annoys George. To confuse the kidnappers, Berta's hair is cut short. She also dresses like a boy and is called "Lesley."

The Kidnapping Mix-Up

Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny leave Kirrin Cottage for a week. They need to meet Elbur to discuss their project. The children are left alone with Joan, their cook.

That night, George lets Timmy guard Berta in Joan's room. George puts Sally, the poodle, in her own bedroom. Annoyed by Sally, George decides to put the poodle outside in Timmy's kennel. But the kidnappers are waiting! They grab George, thinking she is Berta.

Searching for George

The next day, Julian, Dick, and Anne realize George has been taken. They worry Berta might be next. So, they send Berta away to stay with Joan's cousin. Their gypsy friend, Jo, also lives there. Berta now dresses as a simple country girl and is called "Jane."

The children find clues George left behind. One clue is a piece of paper with the word 'Gringo' on it. Jo helps them learn that Gringo runs a fair. Jo's friend, Spiky, tells them where Gringo's caravan is. George had been held there for a short time.

Julian gets help from Jim, a local garage worker. Jim helps them track Gringo's unique car. Soon, they have an idea of where George might be held.

The Rescue Mission

That night, Julian and Dick set off with Timmy to find George. Jo secretly follows them. The boys eventually find George, but they are all caught! They are locked in a room.

Luckily, Jo and Timmy come to the rescue! They free Julian, Dick, and George. The bad guys are then locked up instead. The children return to Kirrin Cottage and tell Anne and Joan their exciting story. After a huge breakfast, they all fall fast asleep.

Happy Endings

Aunt Fanny, Uncle Quentin, Elbur, and Berta arrive at Kirrin Cottage later that morning. The police are called to arrest the men locked in the house. Elbur agrees to let Berta stay longer at Kirrin with her new friends.

Finally, Dick suggests writing down their adventure. He proposes they call it 'Five Have Plenty Of Fun'!
