Plot Summary
This book takes the Famous Five on a thrilling new adventure, full of secrets and surprises.
George's Camping Trip
The story begins with George, one of the Famous Five, deciding to go camping. She wants to take her loyal dog, Timmy, away from home. Timmy has an ear injury and needs to wear a big collar to stop him scratching it. George doesn't want him to be teased by others. She is happy when her cousin Anne joins her at the campsite. However, George is a bit disappointed because Anne's brothers, Julian and Dick, are away visiting France.
Mysterious Twins and a Ruined Cottage
While camping, George and Anne meet a boy who is the son of an archaeologist. He is busy digging at an old Roman camp, looking for ancient items. He has a small, one-eyed dog named Jet. The boy asks the girls not to disturb his important work. Later that day, another boy arrives at their campsite. The girls think it's the same boy, but they soon discover they are actually dealing with twin brothers!
That night, Anne wakes up for a drink. She wanders near an old, ruined cottage. To her surprise, she sees lights and hears whispers and footsteps coming from inside. She quickly gets George and Timmy to investigate. But when they arrive, everything is quiet. There is no sign that anyone was ever there.
A Stormy Night and New Arrivals
The next day, the girls meet the twins again, but separately. They start to wonder what is going on with these two boys. George and Anne then go back to George's parents' house to get more food. While there, they get exciting news: Julian and Dick will be arriving in a day or two! The Famous Five will soon be together again.
That night, a big storm hits. George and Anne decide to take shelter in the old, ruined cottage. They are shocked when they see people outside in the storm. Who could these mysterious figures be?
Secrets of the Cottage
When Julian and Dick finally arrive, the four cousins decide to stay in the ruined cottage together. They are determined to find out what secrets it holds. As they explore, they make an amazing discovery: a secret tunnel hidden within the cottage!
Their adventure takes a dangerous turn when they stumble upon a gang of thieves. The children also uncover a stolen blueprint. This blueprint is incredibly important because only two copies exist in the world. One copy belongs to Uncle Quentin, George's father, who is a brilliant scientist. The other copy, which has been stolen, belongs to Sir John Lawdler. The Famous Five must now work together to solve this mystery, outsmart the thieves, and recover the valuable blueprint!
