Five Go to Mystery Moor (published in 1954) is an exciting children's book by Enid Blyton. It's the thirteenth adventure in her super popular Famous Five series. Join Julian, Dick, Anne, George, and their dog Timmy as they uncover secrets on a mysterious moor!
What Happens in the Book
George and her cousin Anne are on holiday at Captain Johnson's Riding School. George, who is a tomboy, quickly finds a rival in another tomboy named Henrietta. Henrietta prefers to be called "Henry."
Later, Anne's brothers, Julian and Dick, arrive to join the girls. At first, they think Henry is a boy, which makes George a bit annoyed.
The children soon meet a group of travelers who seem determined to visit a lonely place called Mystery Moor. An old blacksmith tells the children a strange story. He explains how, long ago, travelers caused problems for a railway owned by a family of sand miners. Most of the mining family then disappeared mysteriously when the moor was covered in a thick mist.
The Famous Five decide to follow the travelers to the moor. There, they discover the travelers are involved in receiving smuggled American banknotes. These banknotes are actually fake money from France!
George and Anne are captured and held in a cave. Luckily, Henry and a boy from the riding school named William come to their rescue. A young traveler boy named Sniffer also helps them escape. George promises to give Sniffer a red bicycle and help him find a home with a family.
