Flag Springs, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Flag Springs is a small, unincorporated community located in Andrew County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county government.

History

The community of Flag Springs has a simple but interesting history. A post office was opened there in 1870. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1907.

The name "Flag Springs" comes from a nearby natural spring. This spring was special because of the beautiful flag irises that grew along its edges. These colorful flowers gave the spring, and later the community, its unique name.
