The national flag of Andorra was officially adopted in 1866. It features three vertical stripes of blue, yellow, and red. This type of flag, with three colors, is called a tricolour. In the middle of the yellow stripe, you'll find the national coat of arms.
Even though the stripes look like they are the same size, the yellow stripe in the middle is actually a bit wider than the blue and red ones. The widths are in a special ratio: 8 parts blue, 9 parts yellow, and 8 parts red.
The design of Andorra's flag was inspired by the flags of its neighbors, France and Spain. The colors blue, yellow, and red are often seen in flags from these countries.
The coat of arms in the center has a special motto written on it: Virtus Unita Fortior. This Latin phrase means "Strength United is Stronger." It reminds people that working together makes them more powerful.
