Flag of Bahrain facts for kids
The national flag of Bahrain is easy to spot! It has a white stripe on the left side and a red area on the right. This red part is divided by five triangles, making a cool zigzag pattern.
The color red is often used in flags of Arab countries near the Persian Gulf. The five points on Bahrain's flag are very important. They stand for the Five Pillars of Islam, which are key beliefs in the Islamic faith.
This flag looks quite a lot like the flag of Qatar, but there are small differences.
History of the Bahrain Flag
The very first flags of Bahrain were simply plain red. In 1820, Bahrain signed a treaty with the United Kingdom. To show this new agreement and peace, a white stripe was added to the flag.
In 1932, a special zigzag edge was added to the flag. This was done to make Bahrain's flag look different from the flags of its neighbors.
The flag first had twenty-eight white points along its edge. This number was later changed to eight points in 1972. Then, in 2002, the number of points was changed again to five. This change was made so that each of the five points could represent one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
