Flag of Serbia and Montenegro facts for kids
The flag of Serbia and Montenegro was the official flag used by the country from 1992 to 2006. It was first adopted on April 27, 1992, as the flag for the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. This flag was used until 2003.
In February 2003, the country changed its name to the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. Even with the new name, the same flag continued to be used. It remained the national flag until June 2006, when Serbia and Montenegro became two separate countries.
This flag looked very similar to the flag of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (used from 1943 to 1992). The main difference was that the older flag had a red star in the middle, which was removed from the new flag. It also looked a lot like an upside-down Dutch flag.

What Did the Flag Look Like?
The flag of Serbia and Montenegro had three horizontal stripes. These stripes were blue, white, and red. The blue stripe was at the top, the white stripe was in the middle, and the red stripe was at the bottom. This design was simple and clear.
Colors and Their Meaning
The colors blue, white, and red are often called Pan-Slavic colors. These colors are used by many Slavic countries. They represent shared history and culture among Slavic people.
History of the Flag
The flag was first used when the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was formed in 1992. This happened after several republics, like Slovenia and Croatia, left the old Yugoslavia. The new country included only Serbia and Montenegro.
From Yugoslavia to Serbia and Montenegro
In 2003, the country decided to change its name. It became the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. This change reflected a new political agreement between the two parts. Even with the name change, the flag stayed the same. It continued to fly over government buildings and at international events.
The End of the Flag's Use
The flag was used until June 2006. At that time, Montenegro voted to become an independent country. This meant that the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro no longer existed. Both Serbia and Montenegro then adopted their own new flags.
