FlatIron Crossing is a large shopping center in Broomfield, Colorado. It has many popular stores like Macy's, Dillard's, and Dick's Sporting Goods. There's also an outdoor area called FlatIron Village with a big AMC Theatres movie theater and several restaurants. Other well-known stores you can find here include 2nd & Charles, Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, H&M, and Old Navy.
History of FlatIron Crossing
FlatIron Crossing first opened its doors on August 11, 2000. It took two years to build this unique shopping center. When it opened, it was special because it had both an indoor mall and an outdoor village area connected together. This was one of the first designs of its kind in the United States.
In 2001, a free shuttle bus started helping people get around. It traveled between FlatIron Crossing and other nearby shopping areas. The bus made 14 stops, making it easier for shoppers to visit different places.
Even though many people enjoyed the mall, the outdoor village area faced some challenges early on. It was supposed to have unique local shops, a Borders bookstore, and restaurants. However, the AMC movie theater, which was meant to be a big attraction, opened much later than planned. This made many of the first shops leave. Also, there were some problems with the ground beneath the village, causing other stores to move out. Because of this, some empty buildings were later taken down. When Borders bookstore went out of business, the outdoor village was left with mostly just the cinema and a few restaurants.
Over the years, some of the main stores at FlatIron Crossing changed. In 2004, Galyan's became Dick's Sporting Goods. In 2006, Foley's changed its name to Macy's. The Lord & Taylor store closed in 2005. Later, in 2009, the empty Lord & Taylor building was split into three new stores: Forever 21 on the top floor, and Ultimate Electronics and The Container Store on the bottom floor. Both Borders and Ultimate Electronics closed in 2011. More recently, Nordstrom also closed its store at FlatIron Crossing in May 2020.
