Flat Creek is named after a stream that flows into the Duck River. This area is located in the middle part of Tennessee. Long ago, when Tennessee first became a state in 1796, this region was known as the Middle District.
Who Lived in Flat Creek?
The first people to settle in the Flat Creek area were often soldiers who had fought in the American Revolutionary War. After the war, they were given land for their service, and many chose to build their homes here.
When Was Flat Creek Established?
The town of Flat Creek was officially planned and laid out around the year 1840. Before that, in 1833, a post office was opened there, helping people send and receive letters. For a while, the name of the post office was even changed to "Flatcreek" in 1895. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1937.
