Flat Rock is a small place in Indiana, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city. It's located in Washington Township, within Shelby County.
The Story of Flat Rock
Flat Rock was officially mapped out in 1855. This process is called 'platting.' The community got its name from the nearby Flatrock River.
A post office has been serving the area since way back in 1828. This shows that people have lived here for a long time!
Flat Rock even had its own high school, called Flat Rock High School. It opened in 1893. The school closed in 1958. After that, students went to schools in the Southwestern Consolidated School Corporation of Shelby County.
