Florence Ada Kendrick, also known as Flora Shipp, was a talented British artist who lived from 1880 to 1969. She was famous for her beautiful watercolour paintings. She was also a skilled sculptor, creating bronze busts (sculptures of heads and shoulders) and small statues called statuettes.

Her Artistic Journey

Florence Ada Kendrick was born in a town called Margate in southern England. Her father, Joseph Thomas Kendrick, was an engraver, which means he made designs by cutting into surfaces.

Florence loved art and studied at the Royal College of Art in London. This is a very famous art school. From the 1910s until 1957, she regularly showed her sculptures and portraits at the Royal Academy. The Royal Academy is a well-known place where artists can display their work.

She also showed her art in other important places. She exhibited at the Paris Salon in France, which is another very famous art exhibition. In England, she displayed her work with the Royal West of England Academy. In Scotland, her art was shown at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and the Royal Scottish Academy.

From 1908 to 1919, Florence also exhibited with the Society of Women Artists. This group helped women artists show their work. She was also chosen to be an Associate member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, which is a special honor for sculptors.

In 1919, Florence Kendrick married Horace Shipp, who was an art historian and critic. This means he studied and wrote about art. Florence lived for many years in Hampstead, a part of north London, where she passed away in 1969.
