Becoming a Pool Trick Shot Master
How Florian Started Playing Pool
Florian Kohler grew up in eastern France. He did not start playing pool until he was 18 years old. His parents gave him a 6-foot pool table for his birthday. This gift started his journey into the world of pool.
Learning from the Best
After getting his table, Florian began watching videos online. He studied exhibition videos of other famous trick shot artists. He tried to copy the shots he saw. Some of his biggest inspirations were Mike Massey and Semih Sayginer.
Creating New Trick Shots
Florian soon started to invent his own trick shots. He came up with many new ideas. For example, he learned how to make balls jump very high. He also figured out how to do massé shots using many cues at once. A massé shot is when you hit the ball with the cue stick at a steep angle. This makes the ball curve. He even performed jump and massé shots on balls that were moving! He set a record for the highest jump shot on a moving ball. The ball jumped 34 inches (86 centimeters) high.
Working with Pool Equipment
Florian helped create a special cue stick called the Mezz massé cue. This cue is made just for doing amazing trick shots.
Partnering with the APA
On April 28, 2014, the APA announced they would sponsor Florian. This meant he became an official spokesperson for the APA. In mid-2019, Florian and his wife became leaders for the APA in Las Vegas.
