The Florida Strawberry Festival is a big yearly event held in Plant City, Florida. It lasts for 11 days and brings in about half a million visitors. People come from all over central Florida and other places to enjoy it. This festival is known as one of the best in Florida. It is also one of the top 40 fairs in all of North America.
The festival offers many fun things to do. You can find lots of crafts and items for sale, like at a big market. There are also many free shows and events to watch. A huge carnival area, called a midway, has exciting rides. Plus, famous musicians perform concerts twice a day.
History of the Festival
The idea for the strawberry festival came from the Plant City Lions Club in 1930. Locals had tried for a while to promote their local strawberry crops. The very first Florida Strawberry Festival happened in that same year.
The festival took place every year for 11 years. However, it stopped during World War II from 1941 to 1947. After the war, the American Legion, Post #26, helped bring the festival back. It started up again in 1948 and has been held every year since then.
