Floris is a small, quiet place in the northwest part of Beaver County, Oklahoma, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county.

A Look Back: Floris History
How Floris Got Its Name
Floris was named after a young girl! Her name was Floris Derthwick. Her father, Byron S. Derthwick, owned the land where the community was started. It's nice that a place can be named after someone's child.
The Old Post Office
For many years, Floris had its own post office. It opened on August 7, 1903. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community until September 30, 1925.
The Historic Grain Elevator
One of the most important buildings in Floris is the Floris Grain Elevator. This tall building was built next to the tracks of a railroad that doesn't exist anymore, called the Beaver, Meade and Englewood Railroad.
The Floris Grain Elevator is so special that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Beaver County, Oklahoma. This means it's recognized as an important historical site that should be preserved. Grain elevators are big buildings used to store grain, like wheat or corn, before it's shipped out. They were very important for farming communities.
