Who Was Floyd Sneed?
Floyd Sneed was a well-known drummer from Canada. He became famous for his drumming with the band Three Dog Night. This band was very successful in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Floyd Sneed was born in Calgary, Canada, on November 22, 1942. He grew up in a family that loved music. Both of his parents were musicians at their church. This helped him get interested in drums when he was very young.
His first drum set was a special gift from his older sister, Maxine. At that time, Maxine was married to the musician and actor Tommy Chong. Floyd played in a band called the "Calgary Shades" with his older brother, Bernie Sneed, who played piano.
Later, Floyd started performing in the Vancouver area. He played with Tommy Chong's band, which was called Little Daddy and the Bachelors.
Joining Three Dog Night
In 1966, Floyd Sneed started his own band. He then moved to Los Angeles, California. In 1968, he met three singers: Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells. These singers had a contract with Dunhill Records. They were looking for musicians to play with them.
Floyd joined their new band, which they named Three Dog Night. The band quickly became very popular. They had many hit songs in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Floyd mostly played drums, but he also sang a deep vocal line on their famous song "Joy to the World". He sang the words "I wanna tell you."
After Three Dog Night
Three Dog Night broke up in 1977. After that, Floyd Sneed continued to work with other music groups. He went on a long tour with The Ohio Players. He also formed a short-lived group called SS Fools with other musicians from Three Dog Night.
In the mid-1980s, Three Dog Night got back together for a short time, and Floyd joined them. In 1990, he had a small role in a movie called Far Out Man, playing a drummer. The movie was made by Tommy Chong.
In 2002, Floyd toured and recorded music with a band called K.A.T.T. He also started his own band, which he named Same Dog New Tricks.
Floyd Sneed often performed in concerts with Chuck Negron, one of the lead singers from Three Dog Night. They played together throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Floyd is also credited on Chuck Negron's album "Live In Concert," which was released in 2001.
Floyd Sneed passed away on January 27, 2023, when he was 80 years old.
