Ultimate at the World Games
Ultimate is a fast-paced team sport played with a flying disc. Teams try to score points by passing the disc to teammates until someone catches it in the opposing end zone. It's known for its spirit of sportsmanship.
From 2001 to 2017, the Ultimate tournament at the World Games usually had six teams. These teams were the top five countries from the previous World Ultimate Championships (which includes men's, women's, and mixed teams) plus the country hosting the World Games. In 2022, the tournament grew to include eight teams.
The way Ultimate was played also changed over time. From 2001 to 2009, each team had six players on the field at once, with three women and three men. In 2013, the rules changed to seven players per side. Teams had to have either three men and four women, or four men and three women on the field.
