The Follmer, Clogg and Company Umbrella Factory is a very old building in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It's also known as the Van Sciver Building. This historic factory was once a busy place where umbrellas and parachutes were made.

The building was constructed over many years, starting around 1880 and finishing by 1905. It's a large brick building shaped like the letter "U".

A Place That Made Umbrellas

For many years, this building was home to the Follmer, Clogg and Company. This company was famous for making umbrellas. They also made parachutes, which are used to slow down people or objects falling from the sky.

The company continued to make these items in the factory until the 1940s. It was a very important part of the local industry.

From Factory to Furniture Store

In 1944, the building got a new owner. The Van Sciver Furniture Company bought the old factory. They turned it into a big furniture store.

The building also became a warehouse to store furniture. Plus, it had a repair shop for fixing furniture. The Van Sciver Furniture Company used the building until 1982.
