The Fond du Lac Light is a special lighthouse located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. It stands proudly at the entrance to the harbor and Yacht Club. This lighthouse is found on the southern end of Lake Winnebago. It even appears on the official Fond du Lac City Seal!
Building the lighthouse began in May 1933. It was finished quickly, just after October of the same year. Before this lighthouse, a simple red light guided boats into the harbor.
History of the Lighthouse
The Fond du Lac Light has an interesting past. After many years, the lighthouse started to show its age. It was not being taken care of very well. In 1967, there was a plan to tear it down.
Saving the Lighthouse
Luckily, the community stepped in to help. Local groups worked together to save the lighthouse. They helped to restore it in 1993. Thanks to their efforts, the lighthouse stands tall today.
Fun Facts About the Lighthouse
The lighthouse is a popular spot, especially during holidays. It becomes a central part of the seasonal light displays in Lakeside Park. A special cutout of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is placed on the lighthouse. The red light at the top of the lighthouse becomes Rudolph's bright nose!
