The Story of W. Atlee Burpee
A man named Washington Atlee Burpee (1858-1915) bought Fordhook Farm in 1888. He was the founder of Burpee Seeds, a very famous seed company. Burpee wanted a place to test new plants and grow seeds.
Growing Seeds and Ideas
Fordhook Farm became a special place for growing and experimenting with seeds. Burpee Seeds used the farm to develop new kinds of vegetables, flowers, and other plants. They grew seeds there until 1981. This work helped gardeners and farmers all over the country.
