Forester's Hall, also known as Forest Hall, is a special old building in Milford, Pennsylvania. It's located in Pike County, Pennsylvania. This building has a long history and was built in two main parts. The first part was finished in 1886. Later, in 1904, a big addition was built, making the hall even larger.
The building is quite impressive, standing three stories tall. It's made from a type of stone called bluestone, which gives it a unique look. Forester's Hall has a very distinct style, almost like a castle! It features a steep, pointed roof, small towers, and decorative gables. You can also spot dormer windows and three bluestone chimneys. This style is known as Châteauesque, which means it looks like a French castle.
What is Forester's Hall?
Forester's Hall is considered a historic commercial building. This means it's an old building that was used for businesses or other public activities. Over the years, it has served different purposes. Its unique design and history make it an important landmark in Milford.
A Place for Learning
The addition built in 1904 was very important. It was designed to hold classrooms and large rooms called auditoriums. These spaces were used for a special summer program. This program was for students studying forestry, which is the science of managing forests.
The program was run by the Yale School of Forestry. Students would come to Milford to learn about trees and nature. They often visited Grey Towers, which is a famous forestry site nearby. So, Forester's Hall played a role in educating future forest experts!
A Recognized Landmark
Because of its history and unique architecture, Forester's Hall is officially recognized as an important place. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This is a list of buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history. Being on this list helps protect the building and its story.
Forester's Hall is also part of the Milford Historic District. A historic district is an area with many old buildings that have special historical or architectural value. This means the whole neighborhood around Forester's Hall is protected and valued for its past.
