Forfar railway station was once an important train stop in the town of Forfar, Angus, Scotland. It was the second railway station built in Forfar. It helped people and goods travel around the area for many years.
A Look Back in Time
Forfar railway station first opened its doors on 2 August 1848. It was built by a company called the Scottish Midland Junction Railway.
Right next to the station, there was a special area called a goods yard. This yard was used to load and unload items like coal, crops, or other products that were being sent by train. It was a busy place where goods trains would stop to pick up or drop off their cargo.
What Happened to the Station?
The station served passengers for a long time, but eventually, fewer people were using trains. Because of this, Forfar railway station closed for passengers on 4 September 1967.
Even after passenger trains stopped, the goods yard stayed open for a while longer. It continued to handle freight until 1982, when it also closed down completely. Today, the station is no longer in use.
