Fimbristylis dichotoma, also known as forked fimbry or eight day grass, is a type of plant called a sedge. Sedges are grass-like plants that belong to the Cyperaceae family. This plant naturally grows in warm, tropical parts of the world.

What Does It Look Like?

This plant can live for one year or many years. It grows from about 10 to 80 centimeters tall. It has many long, thin stems, about 2 millimeters wide. These stems are a bit triangular and smooth, growing in a clump.

Its roots are thin and strong, like wires, and are black. It also has short underground stems called rhizomes. Many leaves grow in a thick bunch at the bottom of the plant. They can be at least half as long as the stems.

Where Does It Grow?

Fimbristylis dichotoma is found in many warm, tropical parts of the world. You can see it widely across Asia, Africa, and Australia.

Where Does It Live?

This plant loves to grow in wet places, even in soil that is flooded. You can also find it in higher areas where the soil holds water well. It grows in swamps, open fields, along grassy roads, in areas with a type of grass called cogongrass, and sometimes in farm fields.
