Fort Lonesome is a quiet, countryside area located in southeastern Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. It is about 36 miles (58 km) southeast of the city of Tampa.
A long time ago, in the early 1930s, a sawmill brought some life to the area. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into lumber. This sawmill helped create a few houses and three stores. However, this small "town" didn't last long. A fire destroyed the mill, and the community slowly disappeared. Today, Fort Lonesome is mostly a farming region, meaning many people grow crops or raise animals there.
