The street was officially opened on January 21, 2012, by Hamza Shahbaz Sharif. It took the place of another food street called Gawalmandi Food Street. In 2013, a group called the Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) took over managing the street. They worked with private businesses to give it a fresh, new look.
