The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is a huge and beautiful garden located in Fort Worth, Texas. It covers about 110 acres, which is like 80 football fields! This garden opened way back in 1934, making it the oldest main botanical garden in Texas. It's a great place to explore and learn about plants from all over the world. Some of its most loved spots are the Fuller Garden, the Rose Garden, and the Japanese Garden.

Exploring the Gardens

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden has many different areas to discover. Besides lovely wooded paths, here are some of the special gardens you can visit:

Back Yard Vegetable Garden

This garden is all about growing vegetables. It also hosts many fun and educational programs. You can learn how to grow your own food here!

Tropical Conservatory

Step inside the Conservatory, a large greenhouse that's about 10,000 square feet. It's filled with amazing tropical plants. You'll see colorful orchids, unique bromeliads, and tall tropical trees.

Four Seasons Garden

This garden is always changing with the seasons. It features hundreds of different kinds of iris, daylily, and chrysanthemum flowers. There's always something beautiful blooming!

Fragrance Garden

This small garden was specially made for people who are visually impaired. It has many plants that smell wonderful, along with a peaceful fountain. You can enjoy the garden with your sense of smell.

Fuller Garden

The Fuller Garden has pretty pathways and open grassy areas. It's a popular spot for special events like weddings and garden parties. It's a very scenic part of the garden.

Japanese Garden

The Fort Worth Japanese Garden is a peaceful seven-acre area. It opened in 1973 and feels like a little piece of Japan. You'll find three koi ponds filled with colorful fish, gentle waterfalls, and charming bridges. There's also a traditional teahouse, pagodas, and pavilions. In spring, the cherry trees bloom, and in fall, the Japanese maples turn bright colors.

Rose Gardens

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is famous for its beautiful rose gardens.

  • Lower Rose Garden: This rose garden was inspired by the famous Villa Lante in Italy. It's a lovely place to see many different types of roses.
  • Oval Rose Garden: This garden has hundreds of roses and was updated in 2002. It's a great spot to enjoy the beauty and scent of roses.

Native Texas Boardwalk

Perennial Garden

Rock Springs

This area has elevated pathways and bridges that cross over ponds and streams. It's a nice place for a relaxing walk, surrounded by nature.

Trial Garden

In the Trial Garden, experts test hundreds of different kinds of perennial plants. They see how well these plants grow in the local climate. This helps them find the best plants for other gardens.

Water Conservation Garden

This garden shows how to save water when gardening. It's a demonstration xeriscape garden, meaning it uses plants that don't need much water. It's a smart way to garden in dry areas.

Water Wise Entrance

This is the garden you see when you first enter. It features plants like agave, Texas sage, salvia greggii, Mexican Bush sage, red yucca, and Esparanza. These plants are beautiful and don't need a lot of water.

Begonia Species Bank

The garden also has a special Begonia Species Bank. This bank works to protect different types of begonia plants from disappearing. It's the largest collection of begonias in the United States!
