Founders Heritage Park is a special museum located in Nelson, New Zealand. It's a fun place where you can explore history, especially about how people used to live and travel. The park is home to different groups that focus on historical themes, like old cars and trains.

You can even ride a short heritage railway line! This railway is run by the Nelson Railway Society. The park also has cool shops where you can buy yummy bakery treats, handmade foods, and unique arts and crafts made by local people.

Park History and Opening Dates

Founders Heritage Park was created mostly by the hard work of the local community. A group called Founders Inc. started the project in 1977. After many years of effort, the park officially opened its doors to visitors in 1986.

Buildings and Collections

The park has many interesting buildings. Some of these are original old buildings that were moved here. Others are careful copies of historic buildings, built with help from local companies. Most of the old items and collections you see in the park were given as gifts by people living in Nelson.

Park Management and Events

In 1995, the ownership and management of Founders Heritage Park moved to the Nelson City Council. This means the city now helps run the park. The park is also a popular spot for different events, such as craft fairs and book fairs, which bring the community together.
