Fountaintown is a small community in Indiana, a state in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own separate local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of Van Buren Township in Shelby County.
History of Fountaintown
Fountaintown was first planned in 1854. A man named Matthew Fountain started the community. He decided to name it after himself.
In 1867, a railroad line was built to reach Fountaintown. This helped the community grow and connect with other places. A post office opened in Fountaintown in 1869. It has been serving the community ever since.
For many years in the early 1900s, Fountaintown even had its own high school.
