The Sweet History of Four Seas Ice Cream
This special ice cream shop first opened its doors in 1934. It was started by a person named W. Wells Watson. The name "Four Seas" comes from a poem called 'Cape Cod Calls'. This poem talks about the four bodies of water that surround Cape Cod. These are the Atlantic Ocean, Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod Bay, and Nantucket Sound.
A Family Business Through the Years
In 1960, a man named Dick Warren bought the shop. During this time, the famous Kennedy Family often visited Four Seas Ice Cream. Dick Warren ran the shop for many years. In 2001, he sold it to his son, Douglas Warren, and his daughter-in-law, Peggy Warren.
Dick Warren, who his employees called "Chief," kept helping out at the shop until he passed away in 2008. He even wrote a book about making ice cream at home! The shop has stayed in the same spot for over 86 years. It still has the same classic diner style it started with.
Awards and Recognition
Over the years, Four Seas Ice Cream has earned many national awards. In 2011, Food and Drink Magazine listed it as one of the top 25 ice cream stories. This shows how much people love their ice cream!
