Foxworth is a small community in Marion County, Mississippi, United States. It is also known by the names Nearest or West Columbia. In 2020, about 523 people lived there. Foxworth is considered an unincorporated area, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It is also a census-designated place (CDP), which is an area the U.S. Census Bureau defines for gathering population data.

A Look at Foxworth's History

Foxworth was named after Frank W. Foxworth. He moved to this area from the east side of the Pearl River. His father had settled near Columbia, Mississippi, which is about 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Foxworth.

In its early days, Foxworth was a busy place. The community had a grist mill, which grinds grain into flour. It also had a sawmill for cutting wood and a gin for processing cotton.

Foxworth was once located along the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad line. There was even a special train track, called a spur line, that connected a lumber company to another big railroad. In 1992, the local Foxworth Bank joined with a larger bank called Trustmark Bank.

Foxworth is in the middle of Marion County. It sits on the west side of the Pearl River valley. The Pearl River separates Foxworth from Columbia, which is the main town of the county, called the county seat. Columbia is about 3 miles (4.8 km) away.

U.S. Route 98 runs along the southern edge of Foxworth. This highway goes east through Columbia to Hattiesburg, which is about 36 miles (58 km) away. If you go west on U.S. Route 98, you'll reach McComb, about 40 miles (64 km) away. Mississippi Highway 35 also passes through Foxworth with US 98. Highway 35 goes north to Bassfield (21 miles or 34 km) and south to Bogalusa, Louisiana (32 miles or 51 km).

The Foxworth area covers about 2.76 square miles (7.15 km²). All of this area is land.
