Frómista is a small town and a municipality in Spain. It is located in the province of Palencia, which is part of the Castile and León region. In 2018, about 770 people lived there. Long ago, Frómista had many more people, and they mostly grew wheat.
This town is a very important stop for pilgrims. Pilgrims are people who travel for religious reasons. They walk along the Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James. This famous route leads to the city of Santiago de Compostela.

San Martín de Tours Church
The most famous building in Frómista is the Romanesque church of San Martín de Tours de Frómista. It was built in the 11th century. A wealthy queen, the widow of Sancho el Mayor of Navarra, helped pay for it. She brought skilled builders to create the church in a style similar to the Jaca cathedral. This church is a great example of Romanesque art.
Other Churches to See
- The Church of Santa Maria del Castillo is another old church in town. It is built in a mix of Gothic and Renaissance styles. It is near the train station, but it is usually kept locked.
- The Church of St. Peter was started in the 15th century. It is also an interesting historical building to see.
