Fragan was an early Christian saint and a prince from Scotland who lived in the 5th century. He is remembered on October 3rd in Brittany, a region in France. He also shares a special day, called a feast day, on July 5th with his wife, Gwen, in the Roman Catholic Church.
Fragan was born in Great Britain, specifically in a part of Scotland called Albany. In the 400s, he left Scotland to travel to Armorica, which is now Brittany, France. He went there to share his Christian faith with the people.
Fragan's Family Life
Fragan was married to a woman named Gwenn. Together, they had several children. These included the twins Jacut and Guethenoc, as well as Guénolé, Creirwy, and Winwaloe. Fragan was also a cousin to Riwall. He was a stepfather to Cadfan, who was Gwen's son from an earlier marriage.
Fragan's Journey and Settlement
Fragan left Great Britain and moved to a place called Ploufragan in Côtes-d'Armor, France. This happened around the end of the 4th century or perhaps in 418 AD. He made his home in the valley of the Sang River. He is also known for founding a castle called Lesguen, which is now in the area of Plouguin.
Fragan was also a leader who could quickly gather a small army. He used this army to fight off a larger group of pagan pirates. This important battle took place at a location known as Lochrist.
