Inside every living thing, including plants, there are tiny structures called chromosomes. Think of chromosomes as instruction manuals that tell a plant how to grow, what color its flowers should be, and how to make fruit.
All strawberries have a basic set of 7 chromosomes. This is called a haploid set. Fragaria daltoniana is a diploid plant. This means it has two full sets of these chromosomes, making a total of 14 chromosomes (2 sets of 7).
