Françoise Groben (born December 4, 1965 – died May 28, 2011) was a talented cellist from Luxembourg. She played her cello all over the world and won many important awards. You could hear her music on radio, TV, and special music CDs.

Her Amazing Journey as a Cellist

Françoise was born in Luxembourg City on December 4, 1965. She started learning the cello at a young age. Her first teacher was Georges Mallach at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg, which is a special music school.

She continued her studies with Boris Pergamenshikov in Cologne, Germany. Later, she learned from other famous musicians like William Pleeth and Daniil Shafran. In 1990, she won second prize in the important International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. This was a huge achievement for her!

Françoise played with many famous orchestras. These included the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra. She also performed with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. She traveled to many music festivals around the world.

In 1998, she joined the Zehetmair Quartet as their cellist. This group was started by Thomas Zehetmair. They played concerts in many big cities like Paris, Vienna, and Berlin. They also toured in the United States, Australia, and the Far East. Françoise was very lucky to play a special cello made in 1695 by Matteo Goffriller. A bank helped her get this amazing instrument.

Sadly, Françoise Groben passed away on May 28, 2011. She was only 45 years old.
