Francesca was born in Lagos, Nigeria. Besides writing, she is also a visual artist. In 2019, she had an art show at The Khyber in Halifax. She has also directed short documentary films. These include Reconcile and Black & Belonging.
Her Award-Winning Novel
Her novel, Butter Honey Pig Bread, was very popular. It was chosen for Canada Reads in 2021. This is a big book competition in Canada. A famous chef, Roger Mooking, chose to support her book during the competition.
The book also received many important awards. It was considered for the 2020 Giller Prize. It was also a finalist for the 2021 Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction. Other awards it was a finalist for include the ReLit Award for Novel and the Amazon.ca First Novel Award. It was also a finalist for the Governor General's Award for English fiction in 2020. In 2022, Butter Honey Pig Bread won the Dayne Ogilvie Prize.
