Francesco Mancini's Football Journey

Starting His Career

Francesco Mancini began his football journey in 1985. He started with his hometown club, Matera. Later, in 1987, he played for Bisceglie.

Playing for Foggia

In 1987, Mancini joined Foggia. He stayed with this club for ten years. He helped Foggia get promoted to Serie A, which is Italy's top football league. This happened under the coach Zdeněk Zeman. They even won the 1990–91 Serie B title, which is the championship for the second-highest league.

In the 1995–96 season, he played two games for Foggia in Serie B. He then went to S.S. Lazio on loan in November 1995. Being "on loan" means a player temporarily plays for another team.

He came back to Foggia in the summer of 1996. He played another season in Serie B with the club.

Time with Bari

In the summer of 1997, Mancini moved to A.S. Bari. This team was in Serie A. He played 95 games for Bari over three seasons in Italy's top league.

Playing for Napoli

In October 2000, he joined S.S.C. Napoli. This team was also in Serie A. He took the place of a younger goalkeeper, Ferdinando Coppola.

In January 2001, he lost his starting spot to a new player, Alberto Fontana. However, he became the main goalkeeper again after Napoli moved down to Serie B. Even at 35 years old, he played 27 games in the 2002–03 season.

Later Years in Football

In the summer of 2003, Mancini joined Pisa. This team played in Serie C1, which is a lower division.

In January 2005, he moved to Sambenedettese, another Serie C1 team.

After that, he played for a few more teams. These included Teramo, Salernitana, and A.C. Martina. All these teams were in Serie C1.

Life After Playing Football

After he stopped playing, Francesco Mancini became a coach. During the 2009–10 season, he worked for Manfredonia. He was their goalkeeping coach and also an assistant coach.

In July 2010, he became the goalkeeping coach for his old club, Foggia. He worked with his former mentor, Zdeněk Zeman. In July 2011, he followed Zeman to Pescara, a team in Serie B.
