Early Life and Career

Francesco Saverio Pavone was born in Taranto, Italy, on March 25, 1944. Before becoming a judge, he worked as a court clerk. He passed special exams in the late 1970s to become a judge.

In 1980, he began working in Venice. He first worked in the court and then became a prosecutor. A prosecutor is a lawyer who works for the government. Their job is to bring legal cases against people who are accused of crimes.

Fighting Crime in Venice

In Venice, Pavone focused on investigating serious crimes. He looked into organized crime groups and cases of people being kidnapped.

In 1988, Judge Pavone led a special team of judges. This team worked together on big cases. They created a detailed map of a powerful criminal group called the Mala del Brenta. Their work caused a lot of trouble for this group in the Veneto region.

This important investigation led to a major trial in 1994. During this trial, a leader of the Mala del Brenta, Felice Maniero, was found guilty. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison for being part of a mafia-like organization.

Because of his dangerous work, Francesco Saverio Pavone needed protection. He lived under protection from 1989 to 2006. This was due to threats from different criminal groups.

Later Years

In 2016, Francesco Saverio Pavone retired. At that time, he was the chief prosecutor in Belluno, another city in Italy.

Sadly, Francesco Saverio Pavone passed away on March 16, 2020. He was 75 years old. He died in a hospital in Mestre after getting COVID-19. The virus caused serious lung problems for him.
