Francis is what we call a ghost town located in Wheeler County, Nebraska, in the United States. A ghost town is a place that used to be a lively community but is now mostly empty, with few or no people living there.

What Happened to Francis?

Francis was once a small, active community. In 1883, a post office was opened there, which was a very important part of any town back then. It meant people could send and receive letters and packages. This post office served the people of Francis for many years.

However, by 1917, the post office was closed down. This often happens in small towns when people start to move away, perhaps looking for better jobs or opportunities in bigger cities. Without enough people, the town slowly became quiet and empty, turning into the ghost town it is today. It's believed that the town was named after one of the first people to settle there.
