Francisco Silvestre Espejo Camaño (born April 16, 1758, in Siquire, Miranda State – died July 15, 1814, in Valencia, Carabobo State) was an important Venezuelan lawyer. He played a part in Venezuela's fight for independence. He even served as president for a short time in 1812.

Early Life and Education

Francisco Espejo was born in 1758. His parents were Francisco Espejo and Bárbara Caamaño y Bermúdez. He grew up to become a lawyer. Being a lawyer meant he understood laws and how the government worked. This knowledge was very important later in his life.

A Leader for Independence

Venezuela was fighting for its freedom from Spain during the Venezuelan War of Independence. This was a big and difficult time for the country. Many people, like Francisco Espejo, wanted Venezuela to be an independent nation. They believed in a republic, where people could choose their leaders.
