Francisco Solís Hervás (1657–1716) was an important leader in the Catholic Church. He served as a bishop in two different cities in Spain: first in Lérida and later in Córdoba.
Life Story of Francisco Solís Hervás
Francisco Solís Hervás was born in Gibraltar in 1657. When he was 17 years old, in 1674, he became a priest. He joined a religious group called the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy.
In 1701, Pope Clement XI chose him to become the Bishop of Lérida. A bishop is a high-ranking leader in the Catholic Church. He officially became a bishop on December 21, 1701.
Later, in 1713, the King of Spain chose him to be the Bishop of Sigüenza. However, before the Pope could confirm this, he was chosen for another important role.
On January 17, 1714, Pope Clement XI confirmed him as the Bishop of Córdoba. He served in this role until he passed away on October 14, 1716, at the age of 59.
Important Roles as Bishop
As a bishop, Francisco Solís Hervás helped other priests become bishops too. He was the main person who consecrated, or officially made, Juan José Llamas Rivas the Bishop of Panamá in 1714.
He also helped in the consecration of other important church leaders. He was a co-consecrator for:
- Carlos Borja Centellas y Ponce de León, a Titular Archbishop (1705)
- Pedro Aguado, Bishop of Pamplona (1713)
- Sancho Antonio Belunza Corcuera, Bishop of Ceuta (1714)
