Francisco de Mora facts for kids
Francisco de Mora (born around 1553, died 1610) was a famous Spanish architect during the Renaissance period. He was known for his unique building style.
He was born in a city called Cuenca, Spain. He was also the uncle of another well-known architect, Juan Gómez de Mora, and a writer named Baltasar Porreño.
A Special Building Style
Francisco de Mora is considered one of the best examples of a building style called Herrerian architecture. This style became popular in the late 1500s. Even though his best work shows this style, it also hinted at the Baroque style that became very popular in the 1600s. This means his buildings were a bridge between two important periods in architecture.
Famous Buildings by Francisco de Mora
Francisco de Mora designed some very important buildings. Two of his most famous works are:
- The Convento de San José in Ávila. This was a convent, which is a place where nuns live.
- The Palacio ducal de Lerma in Lerma, which is in the province of Burgos. This was a grand palace for a duke.
These buildings were very important and influenced how other religious and non-religious buildings were designed later on.
