Franco Causio, born on February 1, 1949, is a famous Italian former football player. He is best known for winning the 1982 FIFA World Cup with Italy. Franco started his career at his hometown club, Lecce. He then became a star player for Juventus for many years in the 1970s and 1980s.

People called him "The Baron" because he played with great style. He was also known for being well-mannered and fair. Many consider him one of Italy's best wingers ever.

Early Life and Career Start

Franco Causio was born in Lecce, a city in Apulia, Italy. When he was 17 years old, he joined the famous football club Juventus.

Before becoming a regular player for Juventus, Franco spent some years playing for other teams. He played in Serie B, which is Italy's second-highest football league. During this time, he played for Reggina and Palermo.

In 1970, he returned to Juventus. He stayed with the club for 11 years. During this time, he wore the number 7 jersey. He played alongside many famous players. These included Roberto Bettega, Dino Zoff, and Gaetano Scirea.

Success with Juventus

Franco Causio had a very successful time at Juventus. He helped the team win the Italian league title six times. This championship is called the scudetto. He also won the Coppa Italia, which is Italy's main cup competition. In addition, he won the UEFA Cup, a big European club competition.

After winning his sixth scudetto with Juventus in 1981, Franco Causio moved to Udinese. He played there for three years. At Udinese, he played alongside the famous Brazilian star, Zico.

After Udinese, he played for Inter. Then, he joined his hometown team, Lecce, in 1985. This was Lecce's first time playing in Serie A. Franco Causio finished his long career playing for Triestina in Serie B. He retired at the age of 39.

Franco Causio first played for the Italian national team on April 29, 1972. This was a match against Belgium. He was part of the Italian squad for the 1974 FIFA World Cup and the 1978 FIFA World Cup. In 1978, Italy finished in fourth place.
