About Frank Beddor
Frank Beddor grew up in Excelsior, Minnesota. He had an exciting career before becoming a writer.
From Skier to Producer
Beddor was a world champion freestyle skier. This means he was very good at performing tricks and jumps on skis. In 1985, he even worked as a stunt double for actor John Cusack in the movie Better Off Dead. A stunt double performs dangerous scenes instead of the main actor.
Later, Beddor became a film producer. A producer helps make movies happen, from getting money to hiring people. He was a producer for the 1998 film There's Something About Mary. This movie starred famous actors like Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller.
Writing Adventures
After his work in film, Frank Beddor started writing books. His most famous work is The Looking Glass Wars series. This series became very popular and even appeared on The New York Times weekly children's list in 2006.
The Looking Glass Wars Series
The Looking Glass Wars is a new take on the classic story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. In Beddor's books, the main character Alice and the world of Wonderland are real. However, Beddor's story suggests that Lewis Carroll didn't tell the full truth. Instead, Carroll made Wonderland seem like a simple children's story, when it was actually a much more serious and adventurous place.
Frank Beddor has written two more books in The Looking Glass Wars series: Seeing Redd and ArchEnemy. He also created a spin-off comic book series called Hatter Madigan. He wrote this comic with Liz Cavalier, and Ben Templesmith did the artwork. The Hatter Madigan comics focus on a character named Hatter Madigan from The Looking Glass Wars books.
