Frank Bourgholtzer (born October 26, 1919 – died October 8, 2010) was an American journalist and television reporter. He was well-known for his work with NBC News, especially as their first full-time White House correspondent.

Frank Bourgholtzer's Amazing Career

Starting Out in Journalism

Frank was born in New York City. He went to Indiana University Bloomington. There, he studied government, economics, and journalism. He earned his degree in 1940. After college, Frank wrote comic book stories for a while. In 1943, he joined the Wall Street Journal newspaper as a reporter. By 1945, he was reporting from Capitol Hill. This is where the United States Congress meets.

Reporting from the White House

In 1946, Frank joined NBC News. He became their very first full-time reporter at the White House. From 1947 to 1953, he covered President Truman. During the first live TV tour of the White House, Frank convinced the president to play the piano. This happened in the East Room of the White House.

Working Around the World

From the early 1950s to the 1960s, Frank worked overseas for NBC News. He was in charge of NBC offices in many cities. These included Paris, Bonn, Vienna, Moscow, and Yemen. In 1969, he moved to NBC's Los Angeles office. He stayed there until he retired in 1986. Even after retiring, he still took on special reporting jobs. Many of these focused on the Soviet Union.

Awards and Recognition

In 1965, Frank Bourgholtzer won an award. It was called the Overseas Press Club Award. He received it for "best TV reporting from abroad." This award recognized his excellent coverage of the war in Yemen in 1964 for NBC. When Frank passed away in 2010, NBC's Brian Williams spoke about him. He called Frank "a renaissance man." This means someone with many talents. He also said Frank was "elegant but down to earth" and "an exceptional reporter."

Death

Frank Bourgholtzer died at his home in Santa Monica, California. He was 90 years old. His death was on October 8, 2010.
