Frank Curry Jr. (born May 2, 1950 – died May 15, 2022) was an Australian rugby league player and coach. He is best known for his time with the famous South Sydney Rabbitohs club. Rugby league is a popular team sport in Australia. Players score points by carrying an oval ball and tackling opponents.

Playing Career

Frank Curry started playing rugby league as a young boy. He played for junior teams like Zetland United and Mascot Jets. In 1970, he signed with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The next year, Curry joined the Collegians team. This team played in the Illawarra Rugby League competition. After two seasons there, he returned to the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 1973.

First Grade Debut

Frank Curry made his first-grade debut in 1973. This was his first game in the top level of rugby league. It was in a match against the Canterbury-Bankstown team. He played only four first-grade games in his career.

Coaching Career

After he stopped playing, Frank Curry became a coach. He started by coaching junior teams. He coached the Waterloo Waratahs in Souths' junior league.

Presidents Cup Success

In 1986, Curry became the coach for Souths' Presidents Cup team. This was a competition for younger players. In his first year, his team won the 1986 Presidents Cup grand final. They beat the Penrith Panthers 13-0.

From 1988 to 1990, he coached Souths' reserve grade team. This team was just below the main first-grade team.

First Grade Coach

In 1991, Frank Curry became the head coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs first-grade team. He took over from George Piggins. He worked with many young players. Some of these players included Mark Carroll and Sean Garlick.

Curry coached the team for three seasons. It was a challenging time for the club. The team faced many difficulties. They won 20 games during his time as coach. They finished in 14th place each season.

Curry stepped down as coach at the end of the 1993 season. Bob McCarthy took over as coach after him.

Frank Curry passed away on May 15, 2022, at the age of 72.
