Frank M. Gilliam, Jr. (born May 7, 1970) is an American politician. He served as the mayor of Atlantic City from 2018 to 2019. He won the election in 2017, becoming Atlantic City's third African American mayor.

Who is Frank Gilliam?
Frank Gilliam was born and grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He went to Stockton University and earned a degree in criminal justice. Later, he continued his studies at the University of San Francisco.
Early Political Career
In 2008, Frank Gilliam was elected as a councilman-at-large for Atlantic City. A councilman-at-large is a city council member who represents the entire city, not just one specific area.
Protecting Marine Life
While on the city council, Gilliam helped pass an important rule. This rule made it illegal to release helium balloons outdoors in Atlantic City. The reason for this rule is that balloons can be dangerous for animals in the ocean. They can harm marine life if they float into the water. Because of this effort, an organization called PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) gave Atlantic City a special award called the Compassionate City Award.

Frank Gilliam became the mayor of Atlantic City on January 1, 2018. As mayor, he was the leader of the city government. He worked to make decisions and lead projects for the people of Atlantic City.
