Marty Small Sr. was born on March 25, 1974. He is an American politician who has served as the mayor of Atlantic City, New Jersey, since 2019.

He became mayor after the previous mayor, Frank Gilliam, left office. The Atlantic City Council voted 8–0 to choose Mr. Small for the role. He was then elected by voters in 2020 for a shorter term. The next year, he was re-elected for a full term as mayor.

Becoming Mayor

Marty Small Sr. first joined the Atlantic City City Council in 2003. He represented the 2nd Ward as a councilman. The City Council is a group of elected officials who help run the city.

He served on the City Council from January 1, 2004, until October 3, 2019. In 2017, he ran for mayor of Atlantic City but did not win.

When the mayor at the time, Frank Gilliam, resigned, the City Council chose Mr. Small to take over. He served the rest of that term until December 31, 2020. In November 2020, he was elected by the people for another one-year term. Then, in November 2021, he won his first full four-year term as mayor.

About His Life

Marty Small Sr. went to Atlantic City High School. While there, he enjoyed playing basketball. He later studied at Stockton University in New Jersey. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications.

He is married to La'Quetta Small. She is the superintendent of the Atlantic City School District. They have two children together.
