Marty Small Sr. was born on March 25, 1974. He is an American politician who has served as the Mayor of Atlantic City, New Jersey, since 2019. The Atlantic City Council voted 8–0 to appoint him as mayor after the previous mayor, Frank Gilliam, left office. He was elected to a partial term in 2020 and then re-elected for a full term in 2021.

Marty Small Sr.'s Political Journey
Marty Small Sr. began his political career in Atlantic City. He was first elected to the Atlantic City City Council in 2003. He represented the 2nd Ward as a councilman.
From Councilman to Mayor
Small served on the City Council from January 1, 2004, until October 3, 2019. On that date, he became the mayor of Atlantic City. This happened after the previous mayor, Frank Gilliam, resigned.
In 2017, Small ran for mayor but narrowly lost in the Democratic primary election. However, when the mayoral position became open in 2019, the city council chose him to fill the role. He served an unexpired term until December 31, 2020.
Elections and Terms
A special election was held in November 2020. In this election, Marty Small Sr. was re-elected for an additional one-year term. Then, in November 2021, he won his first full four-year term as mayor.

Marty Small Sr. grew up in Atlantic City. He attended Atlantic City High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball. After high school, he went to Stockton University in New Jersey. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from the university.
Family Life
Marty Small Sr. is married to La'Quetta Small. She is the superintendent of the Atlantic City School District. Together, they have two children.
