Franklin Grube (born February 10, 1831 – died June 11, 1869) was an American doctor and politician. He lived during an important time in American history, including the Civil War.

Early Life and Education

Franklin Grube was born in East Coventry, Chester County, Pennsylvania, on February 10, 1831. He was a very smart student.

He went to Yale College and finished his studies there in 1852. After that, he continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1854, he earned his degree to become a doctor.

A Doctor and Politician

After finishing medical school, Franklin Grube traveled for a year. Then, he moved to Clinton, Mississippi. In 1857, he moved again to Geary City, Kansas. There, he worked as a doctor, helping people with their health.

Besides being a doctor, Grube also got involved in public service. He held several important positions in the government. In 1861, the Union party chose him to be a member of the Kansas House of Representatives. This meant he helped make laws for the state of Kansas.

Serving During the War

During the American Civil War, Franklin Grube used his medical skills to help his country. He served for three years as a surgeon for the U.S. Volunteers from Pennsylvania. This means he was a doctor for soldiers fighting in the war.

For some time, he was also a leader at Denison General Hospital in Camp Dennison, Ohio. He helped manage the hospital and care for many wounded soldiers.

Later Life and Family

On June 16, 1864, Dr. Grube married Miss A. L. Culver from Rochester, New York. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Oregon City, Oregon.

Franklin Grube continued to practice medicine. He died in Jacksonville, Oregon, on June 11, 1869, after being sick for only four days. At the time of his death, he was still working as a doctor in Jacksonville. His wife and their two sons survived him.
