Playing Career Highlights
František Straka spent most of his playing career with Sparta Prague. In 1988, he moved to Germany and played for several clubs there. He also represented Czechoslovakia in international matches. Straka played 35 games for his national team between 1983 and 1990. He even participated in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
Coaching Journey
After he stopped playing, Straka started his career as a football coach. He has managed many top clubs in the Czech Republic. He also coached teams in other countries like Austria, Slovakia, and Greece.
Early Coaching Roles
Straka led well-known Czech clubs such as FK Teplice, Sparta Prague, and Viktoria Plzeň. In 2009, he was chosen to be the temporary manager of the Czech Republic national football team. He managed only one game, a 1–0 friendly win against Malta, before leaving the role.
In June 2010, Straka became the head coach of the North Queensland Fury in Australia. Fans in Australia really liked him because of his friendly personality. He was ready to coach the team for another season, but the club had to close in 2011 due to money problems.
After returning to Europe, Straka managed the Polish club Arka Gdynia. In October 2011, he took over as manager of SK Slavia Prague. This move caused some debate among fans. Straka resigned from Slavia Prague in March 2012 after five months. He later returned to the Czech First League in March 2013 with 1. FK Příbram, but stayed for only half a year. In December 2016, Straka became the manager of Ismaily SC in Egypt. This was his first coaching job in the Arab region or Africa.
Recent Coaching Positions
On February 20, 2024, Straka was appointed manager of the Slovak football club Michalovce. Later that year, on July 28, 2024, he became the manager of Dynamo České Budějovice. However, he was sacked by Dynamo České Budějovice on January 10, 2025, because of poor results. On March 17, 2025, he was appointed as the coach of Dukla Banská Bystrica.
